Article 5 of the African Union Constitutive Act established a number of bodies that make up the organization, including the following:
\n\u2022 The Assembly: is the supreme organ of the African Union, composed of Heads of States and Governments of the member countries.
\n\u2022 The Executive Council: is composed of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of member states. It has the mandate to coordinate and take decisions on policies, and to consider issues referred to it by the Assembly.
\n\u2022 The Committee of Permanent Representatives: is composed of permanent representatives\/ambassadors accredited to the Union. It is tasked with following up on the implementation of the Assembly and the Executive Council ‘s decisions
\n\u2022 The African Parliament: is comprised of the parliaments of all member states, with advisory and consultative powers currently.
\n\u2022 The Commission: is the Secretariat of the African Union. It assists the Assembly, the Executive Council and the Permanent Representatives\u2019 Committee in carrying out their functions.
\n\u2022 Peace and Security Council: is composed of 15 elected member states and is tasked with taking decisions necessary to promote peace and security throughout the continent.
\n\u2022 Financial Institutions: are three in number; the African Central Bank, the African Monetary Fund, and the African Investment Bank.<\/p>\n
